PureWow Desktop Navigation Redesign
PRODUCT DESIGN
Summary: The desktop site navigation in 2015 was cluttered and lacked hierarchy. It was heavy-handed and confusing to interact with. The desktop site navigation today is cleaner, has more white space, and has refined type. The categories are grouped with similar content and there is space for trending content to populate. Refined type and large images create more interesting visual elements while allowing the user to have an understanding of all of the content available at a quick glance.
Timeline: 2 months
Role: Design Lead - Create wireframes and prototypes for the new desktop navigation. Provide specific HTML/CSS/JS specs for the engineering team and work with them to QA the prototype once it is built.
Team: Design Lead with one product manager and a front-end developer.
Challenge: Redesign the desktop site navigation on PureWow.com to drive traffic to specific content verticals on PureWow.com while taking into account the data gathered on specific user behavior on the site.
Solution: I wanted to use the navigation as a way to showcase our brand, so I used images that reflected our brand for each navigation item that drives to our content categories. In order to facilitate the re-circulation of content, I designed space for this content in some of the dropdown categories.
Software: Adobe Photoshop, Invision, HTML, CSS
