PureWow Article Pages Redesign

PRODUCT DESIGN

Summary: In addition to type redesign and navigation redesign, I also made updates to all articles pages across PureWow.com. By cleaning up some of the elements: social shares, next article buttons, and other modules, I created more white space and room for the content to breathe and shine.

Timeline: 2 months

Team: Design Lead with a front-end and back-end developer.

Challenge: In conjunction with the typography redesign and site navigation redesign, redesign the various article pages across PureWow.com to fit the updated aesthetic of the brand while taking into account key insights into user behavior on the individual article types.

Role: Design Lead - Create wireframes and prototypes for the existing article types. Provide specific HTML/CSS/JS specs for the engineering team and work with them to QA the prototype once it is built.

Solution: Ensure viewability of re-circulation content and ads by creating a sticky sidebar that houses this content. Implemented the new typography on PureWow.com and the new navigation across all article pages, which served to create more white space and cleanliness in the design. By adding different image sizes to the article templates, I was able to differentiate the content and have more control over the hierarchy of information.

Software: Adobe Photoshop, Sketch, Invision, HTML, CSS

Role: Design Lead

Challenge: Redesign the recipes article page to include SEO keywords such as "prep time" "cook time" "total time" "ratings" and "nutrition".

Timeline: 3 months

Team: Design Lead with a product manager and front-end and back-end developer.

Solution: I restructured the recipes page to emphasize the important elements (prep time + cook times, ratings, nutrition) and to organize the content in a more—for lack of a better word—digestible manner. I achieved this by formatting the content into tabs on desktop and dropdowns on mobile so that the user can more easily access the information he/she needs. These tabs are highly informed by material design and seek to create a clean and utilitarian aesthetic for the user.

Results: The number of user ratings on recipe pages have increased since the new redesign, proving that this new design is more interactive and encourages users to engage with the content.
